If you are staying in a new city away from your hometown, then applying for an Indian passport might be one of the biggest challenges of your life. But this might soon be a thing of the past as the External affairs minister, Sushma Swaraj launched a new scheme under which you can apply for a passport from wherever you are in the country.
So, if you are from Chennai but currently reside in Bangalore, then you can apply for a passport at Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Passport Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) under the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Bangalore. You don’t necessarily have to fly back to Chennai which you normally do in the past. Just specify the address you are in now. This needn’t have to be your permanent address.
Once, you have applied for the passport, police verification for the same will happen at the address you had previously mentioned. So, be double sure to include the proper address. While the physical police verification will also be a thing of the past, it is not in practice yet.
Along with this scheme, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj also launched a ‘mPassport Seva App’ that will help you to apply, pay, and schedule your passport appointments right from where you are without having to even switch on your system. Incredibly convenient, the app is believed to be downloaded by 1 million people in a span of just two days.
If you have been holding back from applying for an Indian passport because of the location discrepancy, then this is the time for you to get on mPassport Seva.
The sooner you get your passport ready, the sooner you can fly away to a new country. Of course, we will do the planning for you. 😉
