#1 St. Anton, Austria

St.Anton is a party resort, known for it’s wild and rough ski terrains. Frequently rated among the top five ski resorts in the world, St. Anton is located in the Arlberg region of Austria, one of Europe’s snowiest areas. The resort boasts 340 kilometres of ski run area, 200 kilometres are for other activities. In addition, it has a highly attractive town famous for its stylish hotels, chalets and restaurants. And come the après-ski time, it doesn’t get any better than St. Anton’s famous pubs and bars!

#2 Verbier, Switzerland

Verbier is the leading ski resort in Switzerland’s largest ski area, the 4 valleys. It is also the top freeride destination in the world. The combination of a scenic location, a lively terrain and an exciting nightlife has long attracted a fair number of youthful and sportive skiing population from across the world. Nearly 100 ski lifts provide access more than 400km of runs, including some of the best served off-ski area in the Alps. The slopes are spectacular, and from the top of Mont Fort at 3330m – the stunning views reach as far as the Mont Blanc!

#3 Bansko, Bulgaria

Bansko is an old Bulgarian town, set on a flat valley in the picturesque Pirin National Park. The ancient park has been modified and propelled into the 21st century by the installation of modern lifts on its ski slopes and construction of lodgings near the base of the new access to the slopes. The resort is becoming increasingly popular, especially with British skiers, thanks to its great value compared to Western European resorts. Bansko is also an ideal place to learn to ski, so beginners can also learn skiing from expert instructors at the resort.

#4 Chamonix, France

Chamonix was the first place in the world to host the first Winter Olympics back in 1924 and has now re-emerged as the capital of mountain skiing in the world. This steep valley, draped with thick blankets of snow beneath a crown of rocks, is where both snow sports and mountaineering met. Ski instructors come here to qualify themselves as the best, and every sincere skier or snowboarder makes it a point to put this destination on their bucket list. People come from all over the world to see how they measure up to the challenge of what the French call as “Le grand ski”. Yes, it does have beginner’s slopes and intermediate skiing too – but the real draw is for advanced skiers looking for the real challenge.

#5 Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy

Once a famous racing town and a host of the 1956 Winter Olympics, Cortina certainly has scope for some serious skiing. It is also Italy’s most stylish and happening resort. Less experienced skiers and lovers of long lunches mean that they have to be talking about something Italian, and it is nowhere more conventionally Italian than Cortina.

The Dolomiti Superski pass means that you can take advantage of the links into the Sella Ronda and also the lovely valley at Lagazuoi – which is possibly Europe’s most beautiful red run.

#6 Revelstoke, Canada

Revelstoke has the most of the fun when it comes to on-mountain ski terrains. There are steep valleys covered in snow with long and well-maintained ski runways. There are also fantastic tree skiing activities, and if that’s not enough, then the half a million acres of heli-skiing terrain should keep you satisfied.

With that being said, the town of Revelstoke which is a 15-minute drive away from the terrain is a cool place with a lot of bars and restaurants to choose from.

#7 Telluride, USA

Though the ski resort in Telluride, Colorado has had a brief history of gold mining, it’s the absolutely fantastic, light-as-air snow and the excellent ski terrain that is luring tourists now. Telluride Ski Resort has been rated America’s Best Ski Resort for the past four years.

It has a perfect ski runway (also called piste) and lots of inbound hike terrain, backed up by a perfect, man-made mountain village.
