YND239-20 in Seoul, North Korea is winning hearts for being one of the most unique cafes ever. At first sight, it looks like just another cafe. But as you enter you realise that it’s nothing like any other place in the world. All of a sudden you’re plunged into a cartoon world. Not just any cartoon, but the 90’s Korean style comic world. Everything has been detailed and conceived to perfection. Let me take you around the chic interiors.
See? Can you believe your eyes? It is a real location. Not a comic book. Maybe these photos below would help.

The decor of the place was directly inspired by the cartoon/Korean drama ‘W- Two Worlds’. You have to agree, this is a top-notch real-life optical illusion. Even the food perfectly imitates the prototypes in cartoons. I’m sure anyone who has watched a fair deal of cartoon growing up would have adored the pretty looking hand-drawn food and dripping milkshakes. The fruit yoghurt smoothies, green lattes, hot chocolates and cakes served here are no exceptions to this. Check out these beauties and you’ll know.
The Peculiar name of the cafe comes from its original address, Cafe Yeonnam-dong 239-20. The owners are sweet Koreans who wanted to create an unforgettable space for people. They are even looking to build a franchise outside of Korea if their business hits it off.
Pre-book your table in advance, because it is a tiny space with a minimal number of tables. It’s the seclusion and the dream-like scenario that works for the place and they’d like to keep it that way.
In addition to the stunning walls, floating chairs and tables(a dog peeping from the window too!), there’s a super stylish outdoor place to this cafe which tourists love. It looks perfectly cut out for Instagram. So remember to click a selfie and tag the cafe’s Instagram page. They will reshare it too!
Head to North Korea soon. Before the rush dies out.
