Id proof now mandatory to book domestic flight tickets!

Frequent fliers, take note! Starting tomorrow, you will be required to present an id proof to book flight tickets. Passengers will now be required to present their Aadhar card, driving license, passport or pan number while booking domestic flight tickets. Even the Election Commission voter ID card is being deliberated for the list of valid id proofs. On the other hand, for international fliers, passports will suffice. This decision comes from the Centre in the light of its decision to create a no-fly list that will bar unruly passengers from taking flights.

On this subject, the Union Minister of Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha announced special amenities for those who submit their Aadhar number while booking flight tickets. He promises a range of services including digital boarding pass, an option to book Uber cab and a longer access to free WiFi at airports.

“We are going to move towards a regime where we will require either passport, Aadhaar or PAN, or some other identification measure to be linked to your PNR number so that we can uniquely identify you during the journey. The idea is to make it a pull experience and not a push experience.”

In what appears to be another step towards Digital India, this digital boarding pass also assures lesser queues and faster check-in at the airport.
