Indonesia Ends All Quarantine Requirement, Get Ready to Travel!

From today onwards, Indonesia has lifted all the quarantine restrictions for international visitors, two years after it imposed border restrictions to stem the spread of COVID-19. The expectation from the loosening of travel restrictions is that it will boost the number of foreign tourists to over 3 million in 2022. This announcement was made by Tourism and Economy Minister, Sandiaga Uno. “With the handling of the pandemic more controlled …today we announce that the policy of no quarantine has been expanded across Indonesia,” said Sandiaga, according to Reuters. This decision was taken after the successful implementation of a trial quarantine waiver for visitors to Bali, as well as to the Batam and Bintan islands close to Singapore. The international travellers will still need to have a negative PCR test before entering the country said the minister.

Prior to the pandemic,  Indonesia typically attracted more than 1 million visitors each month. Now, the number of visitors has dropped so to cope with the growth of the tourism sector, this decision was taken. About 143,700 foreign tourists ventured to Indonesia in January, up 13.6 per cent from the same month in 2021, according to Reuters. A number of Southeast Asian countries have shed the covid restrictions in an attempt to rebuild their economically vital tourism sectors due to the fading of the Omicron threat.
